Club Ghost
I was a bassist ina group doing a tour of the clubs/pubs in my local area circa 84/85.One night we played a club in my home town and the concert roomwas on the first floor of the building.
After the gig ( and after ALL club members had left ) we startedto pack the amps etc away. There were only two access stairwaysto the first floor concert room and one was being constantly usedby the group members to ferry the amps etc to the van. On theother stairway was the proprietor of the premises who was talkingwith our wives, and waiting for us to finish loading up so hecould lock the fire exit doors .
During the loading of ther amps, I decided to go to toilet, thisbeing at the other end of the concert room.
I went to the toilet. The toilet layout itself consisted ofopening the door, going down a passage and then into the mainarea itself. I tried to find a light switch but couldnt so I justwent in.
As I approached the urinal "to do my stuff", I becameaware of a male standing to the right of me in my peripheralvision. The only illumination at that time was from the sodiumstreet lamps shining through the transom windows of the toilet. Iturned to look and saw the following:
White male 50-60 ish
grey/white well groomed hair
medium build / handsome looking
Wearing a grey suit/white shirt/black tie/ black shoes.
His hands were clasped at the front and he was smiling . He wasstood next to the roller towel on the wall.
As I looked at him all he said was "Good group". Iinterpreted this to mean that he thought our group had done agood gig that night. I smiled and said "yes", but atthe same time I was feeling real uneasy.
I looked forward but darent look back at him. I finished offhurriedley and I remember keeping my head down as I walked backto the passage to the exit. I can still remember seeing his legswhilst looking down, as I left.
I went straight to my wife and to the proprietor and said thatthere was someone in the toilet. The proprietor said that thatwas impossible as he'd checked the toilet for any stragglers andit had been a negative. I insisted that there was and so,grabbing my wifes hand I went back into the toilet but there wasno-one there. This really spooked me. There was only one way inor out of that toilet on the first floor concert room and it hadonly been about 1 1/2 mins since I had left the toilet.
If the man had left, myself plus evryone else would have seen himleave as the door was in plain view to all.
He cant have slipped out then down the stairs as both stairwayswere "manned", for want of a better word.
Thats my story whether you believe it or not ,it happened to me.
As a postscript to this, if I can just say that a FuneralDirectors premises were opposite the club ( and still are ), andwhether this may have contributed to the events I dont know.
It is interesting to note however, that not long after thisincident I left the group because of my career yet I still stayedfriends with the members. Some 2yrs later, one of the members rangme to say they had played a gig in the same club and that theproprietor had remembered the group because of that incident. Hehad mentioned the incident to his manager and his manager hadsaid that the same incident re a male in the toilet had happenedto another groups member, sometime before my incident. The exactdetails are not known to me re that incident.
Just thought you may be interested.
