Hamster Wheel
I will admit, it'skind of strange explaining my story to you. It's an odd story ina sense, and is in no way made up. Years ago, I had a teddy bearhamster named "Chitter". I got him for Christmas in1993, when I was 10(yes, I'm only 15). I loved him because he wasmine. The goofy creature even let me kiss him on the nose. I hadhim for a year and a half before he got really sick. My mom, brother, and I had spent the night at my Grandma's since my dadwas out of town. We left Chitter home, since he actually gotcarsick. When I returned to my room, I noticed something waswrong. He had a cut by his left eye, and the eye was bulging andswollen and red in coloring. He was tired, and din't eat as much.
I enticed my mom to drag me to the vet's office in hope ofhealing my hamster. The vet in turn presented me with a salvethat had to be rubbed on his eye. I made my mom do it, but I hadto feed him water with an eye dropper, since he hadlock jaw aswell. Chitter lasted about a week, and then, I came home from myfriend's birthday party, peered in the cage and realized hedidn't look well. He was still alive when I ran to get my mom,but upon my return he died. Devastated, I had my parents bury himin the back yard. I couldn't watch.
Later that night, I said a prayer for Chitter's "soul"and went to sleep. Now, where the cage was located was in ourdining room, right beneath mine. Chitter had a noisy wheel heould run on every night, and I could hear it. It was 8:30pm, andI missed hearing it. I fell asleep. At 12:00am, I was woken by astrange, familiar noise. The wheel. I got quietly out of bed andtiptoed downstairs. The wheel was spinning to a s! ! top when Igot there. My dad was still away, and my brother was asleep in mymom's room. It hadn't been them. I was SCARED. I turned to run upand tell my mommy of the occurence, when a shadow caught thecorner of my eye. It was small, and on the table next to the cage.I turned, and it disappeared. Just then, I heard something likethe sound of a bird's wings beating. I saw a flash of white wingsand then they too, disappeared. The dining room's windows arealways shut tight, and we never have owned a bird. I racedupstarirs and fell asleep. The next morning I came downstairs andglancd in the dining room. There, next to the cage on the table, were food pellets and teddy bear hamster hairs.
