My mom told me this story. She was about 6 months pregnant with me at the time, and I was going to be her and dad's first child. They had moved into an old house in Red Boiling Springs, because it was cheap and they couldn't afford much since Daddy was the only one that could work. Momma had to stay at home by herself during the day. She put a blanket up over the bottom of the stairs and only stayed in the living room. Momma had no vehicle, and there was no phone in the house. During the day while daddy was at work, momma would hear chains rattling on the stairs, and other strange noises in the house. One night while daddy was out, momma heard someone knocking on the back door. She went to see who it was, but when she looked out the door, no-one was there. Suddenly she heard this loud blood-curdling scream from a woman, and simultaneously a wolf started to howl. She ran through the house to the front door, but by the time she got there, the "woman" was poounding on the door, screaming, begging for someone to let her in. Momma couldn't see anyone. She couldn't think of any other way out of the house but the back door and the front door, so she started running to the back door again when she heard daddy's truck coming up the drive.
She made a beeline back to the front door, and she could still hear the screaming woman at the back. About the time daddy pulled up beside the front porch, Momma, 6 months pregnant, jumped through the open passenger side window of Daddy's old truck. daddy says that the look on moma's face and the way she was breathing and shaking all over was the only reason why he believed this story. But my momma swears to this day that the story is true, and it was almost 19 years ago.
