The horse trotted down the dirt path. The driver smiled as he sawtwo little children running around the woods.
"You better be careful. These here woods are said to behaunted." The driver snickered and drove off. The twochildren looked at eachother.
"do you think he was joshing?" The little girl askedfearfully.
"Of course he was. There is no such thingas ghosts."The boys smiled at the girl. "Let's go play at theriver."
1996
Amber and her friends Kelsi, and Shelby were walking in thewoods.
"Hey why dont we go to the river? Dustin said he was gonnago fishing today." Amber quickened her pace as the othergirls followed.
"Amber, Cris told me two kids drowned in the river and theirghosts haunt the woods." Shelby looked scared. Amber sighed.She knew the story of the kids who haunted the woods. It was saidthey lead people deep into the woods and they were never seenagian or people always died somehow in the river.
"Shelby." Amber conforted her. "Dustin and I havebeen here hundreds of times and never seen ghosts." Ambercontinued her walk. All of a sudden she gasped. On the path was acircle of Roses. Did someone plant them that way? She wondered.No one else knows about this path. Anyone could have found it.She told herself and kept walking. Amber heard Shelby scream. Shewhirled around and saw a two pale figures behind her. A boy and agirl. They looked abut eight.
"Hey." Amber waved at them. "Do you want toplay?" They smiled and dissappered. Ever since that day theghost came out and helped lost people, and played with the kidsin the woods. No one was ever hurt or lost in the woods or theriver ever agian. The two kids were name the Chirdren of theWood, and were said to protect the woods.
